Fabler Fox's Reading Room - Stories for Children

Fabler (FAY-BLUR) Fox is a Storyteller. He lives out in the grassy fields just outside of The Book Garden Gallery with the four winds and the gentle bobbing daisies. Fabler Fox is known as a great world traveler and has seen many things Under the Big Blue Sky. If Mr. Sun is shining, Fabler often feels like sunning himself. And this --as Grandpa Turtle will tell you-- is beyond a hare's shadow of a doubt the best time to ask the red rascal for a story.

Sammy the Snail likes a good story. As you know, Sammy is never in a rush and has all the time in the world unlike his distant cousins, the WWW Snail Surfers clan. "Oh, Fabler Fox! Fabler Fox!" he cried one warm spring day as loud as his small voice would let him. "Come out of your foxhole and tell me a story!"

"It's not a 'foxhole,' youngster," replied the hollow far-away voice of Fabler from deep in his living room, slightly peeved. "It's my home," added the fox as he came to his front door.

"Sorry, Fabler. Please tell me a story about the many things you've seen Under the Big Blue Sky." But Fabler is very sly and sometimes just a little bit lazy. His paws have padded over many miles and he always likes to strike a good bargain when he can.

"Did you bring me a fat silly chicken?" he asked.

"I brought you a blueberry muffin, Fabler," said Sammy. "I always bring you blueberry muffins!"

"Harrumph," says Fabler. "Harrumph. Everybody's a vegetarian nowadays. It's enough to make a fox feel out-foxed." Fabler sniffed the wind for smells of danger, and then wrinkled his nose. Satisfied, he lay down in front of the dirt mound that is his doorstep and curled his tail over his paws, much like a cat to keep them warm. Now listen closely, Sammy..."
