[N.p.]: [s.n.], [1901]. Silk broadside, cream with dark blue lettering. Light soil, mild creases; very good. A program in twelve acts involving singing, jugglers, prismatic fountains with colored jets, etc. Among the more notable comedians was the famed act Montgomery & Stone, i.e. David Montgomery and Fred Stone. Montgomery and Stone became prominent in New York in burlesque houses and minstrel shows, but their meteoric rise to fame came when they starred in L. Frank Baum's sensational 1903 Broadway musical version of “The Wizard of Oz.” Other performers listed at Seeley & West; Myrtle Tressider, George Fuller Golden, Bessie Bonehill and various others. $100

Contemporary 1854 ownership of a Christiana Westervelt inside front cover. Lightly soiled. Small edge chips. A good example of this scarce children's book. Not found on OCLC. $75

Nice image of Cornell's McGraw Tower from, I believe, the hills of Cass Park. Charles W. Howes, (1857-?) Began studying photography with William Frear in Ithaca, employed with photographer J.F. Ryder in Cleveland, worked for the Oliver Gallery in Oswego. In 1885, he bought out Frear and became the photographer for Cornell University and Ithaca High School. [Buffalo?]: Courier Company, 1876. 9 x 4½ inches. Silk broadside, printed with blue ink and modest decorations, announcing the opening night of the play, Rosedale, or the Rifle Ball at the Academy of Music in Buffalo. Two fold lines, light fraying, near fine condition. During the play, the crowd was entertaining by the Rifle Ball Dance. Actors Lester Wallack and Kate Bartlett were the headlining performers. A typical 19th century melodramatic play involving widows, soldiers, money, gypsies, inheritances, and the like. Rosedale achieved enormous success throughout the late 19th century, debuting in the 1863-1864 season. $125

[142000] (NEW YORK - PHELPS - INDEPENDENCE DAY - HUMOR) [Anon.].
[N.p., Phelps, New York?]: [s.n.], 1879. Broadside, printed on yellow paper. 12 x 6 inches. Small tape stain to bottom portion, small numerous creases and one closed, inter-textual tear, good. Not on OCLC. Presumably a facetious or satirical broadside that describes the seven divisions in an Independence Day parade (presumably in Phelps, New York) in an irreverent manner, with free-wheeling language. The procession consisted of “...brave men and beautiful women, fierce war horses, elevating mules and musical jackassses, chariots, beer, Sunday Schools, Sioux Indians and wheelbarrow mansions.” The Fifth Division consisted of described Bummers from the West End: “Headed by Man Dear, orators, auctioneers, truthful as well as learned blacksmiths…. ” Other divisions are comprised of the “High ‘Monki’ Monks” and of “Eminent Divines, Learned Statesmen, and Leading Men of all Professions”. This last division included: “Skatie Burnett, with sickly boy carrying documents on ‘What I know about the Bible’ and other agricultural implements, singing to slow music, ‘Dare to do right....” $200

[N.p. 1838.] Silk silver ribbon printed all in black, 7¾" x 3" Illustrated with a vignette of a Lady Columbia figure holding a staff and surrounded by flags, a shield, navigational instruments, a globe, etc. Above her head in a ribbon are the words “Intelligence The Life of Liberty.” A rare commemorative ribbon celebrating the fourth of July in Albany, New York and perhaps issued as a reward or premium by the Young Men's Association for Mutual Improvement. Creases, light fraying, very good and quite clean. $125
